Startvest LLC ("we", "our", or "us") operates IdeaLift. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our Service, including our web application, Discord/Slack/Teams bots, and Chrome browser extension. Please read this policy carefully.
Chrome Extension Privacy
This section specifically addresses the privacy practices for the IdeaLift Chrome browser extension.
What Data the Extension Collects
The IdeaLift Chrome extension collects data only when you explicitly initiate a capture action. We do not passively monitor, track, or collect any browsing data.
- Page URL: The URL of the page you choose to capture
- Page Title: The title of the page you choose to capture
- Selected Text: Text you highlight and choose to capture (only when you use the selection capture feature)
- User Notes: Any notes you add when capturing an idea
- Category: The category you assign to the captured idea
- Authentication Token: Stored locally to keep you logged in

What We Do NOT Do
- We do NOT track your browsing history
- We do NOT collect data from pages you don't explicitly capture
- We do NOT run in the background when you're not using it
- We do NOT sell, share, or monetize your data with third parties
- We do NOT inject ads or modify webpage content
- We do NOT use your data for advertising purposes
Data Flow
When you capture an idea, the following happens:
- You click the extension icon or use the keyboard shortcut (Alt+Shift+I)
- The extension reads the current page's URL, title, and any selected text
- You optionally add notes and select a category
- When you click "Capture Idea," the data is sent to IdeaLift servers via HTTPS
- The idea is processed and created as an issue in your connected GitHub or Linear workspace
Local Storage
The extension stores the following data locally on your device using Chrome's secure storage API:
- Authentication token (to keep you logged in)
- User preferences (theme, default category)
This data never leaves your device except when authenticating with IdeaLift servers. You can clear this data at any time by logging out or removing the extension.

Information from Third Parties
- Profile information from Discord, Slack, or Teams when you connect your account
- Repository and project information from GitHub or Linear
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the collected information to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the Service
- Process and capture ideas from your messages
- Create issues in your connected project management tools
- Send you technical notices and support messages
- Respond to your comments and questions
- Analyze usage patterns to improve user experience
- Detect and prevent fraud or abuse
4. Message Content
Important: We only store the specific messages and content that you explicitly choose to capture as ideas. We do not store or have access to your general chat history. When you react to a message or use the capture command, only that specific content is processed and stored.
For the /idea capture command, we temporarily process recent messages to generate a summary, but only the summarized idea is stored—not the original messages.

We may share your information with:
- Service Providers: Third-party companies that help us operate the Service (hosting, analytics, AI processing)
- Connected Platforms: GitHub, Linear, and other tools you connect to receive your captured ideas
- Legal Requirements: When required by law or to protect our rights
- Business Transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets
We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
6. Data Security
We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including:
- Encryption of data in transit (TLS/SSL)
- Encryption of data at rest

- Secure OAuth token storage
7. Data Retention
We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. You can request deletion of your data at any time. Upon account deletion, we will remove your personal information within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.
