Migrate from Productboard

Move your features and insights to IdeaLift

⚠️ Important: Different Tools, Different Purposes

Productboard is a comprehensive product management platform with roadmaps, prioritization frameworks, and customer insight aggregation. IdeaLift is a focused tool for capturing ideas from chat and turning them into issues.

This migration is best suited for teams who want to simplify their workflow and don't need Productboard's advanced PM features. If you heavily use RICE scoring, roadmap planning, or revenue-based prioritization, consider whether IdeaLift meets your needs before migrating.

Migration Overview

Export your features from Productboard as CSV, then import them into IdeaLift. The process takes about 15-20 minutes depending on your data volume.

  • Roadmap placements and timeframes
  • Revenue and customer segment data
  • Custom fields and scoring
  • Linked objectives and initiatives
  • User stories and child features

Note: Productboard export may require admin permissions. Contact your workspace admin if you don't see the export option.

Step 2: Prepare Your CSV

Productboard exports include many columns. IdeaLift will auto-detect common ones, but you may want to clean up the file first.

Feature Differences

Be aware of these differences when switching from Productboard:

IdeaLift Adds

  • +Emoji reaction capture in Slack/Discord/Teams
  • +Email forwarding capture
  • +Simple inbox triage workflow
  • +2-minute setup (vs weeks)
  • +10x lower cost

You'll Miss

  • -RICE scoring and prioritization matrices
  • -Visual roadmap planning
  • -Customer insight aggregation
  • -Revenue-weighted prioritization
  • -CRM integrations (Salesforce, etc.)
  • -Custom scoring fields

Honest take: If you heavily use Productboard's prioritization, roadmapping, and customer insight features, IdeaLift may not be a full replacement. IdeaLift is best for teams who want simple idea capture and find Productboard overkill.

Go to Dashboard → Search to see all imported items. Use filters to organize.

  • 2.

    Connect your issue tracker

Set up GitHub, Linear, or Jira so you can push approved ideas as issues.

  • 3.

    Set up chat capture

Connect Slack, Discord, or Teams to start capturing new ideas from conversations.

  • 4.

    Train your team

Show them how to react with emojis to capture ideas and use /idea commands.
