⚡Quick Capture
Capture any webpage with a keyboard shortcut. The extension saves the page title, URL, and creates an idea in your backlog.
Or click the IdeaLift icon in your toolbar to open the capture popup.
📝Text Selection Capture
Select any text on a page before capturing. The extension automatically detects your selection and includes it in the idea, along with the source URL for reference.
- 1.Highlight text on any webpage
- 2.Click the IdeaLift icon or use the keyboard shortcut
- 3.Select "Selection" mode in the popup
- 4.Add notes and capture
📷Screenshot Capture
Include a screenshot of the current tab with your capture. Great for preserving visual context or capturing designs and layouts.
Toggle "Include screenshot" in the capture popup. Screenshots are compressed and attached to your idea.
📑Bulk Tab Capture
Capture multiple tabs at once. Perfect for research sessions where you've opened many related pages.
- 1.Click the IdeaLift icon to open the popup
- 2.Switch to the "Bulk" tab
- 3.Select which tabs to capture (or select all)
- 4.Choose a category and click "Capture"
Pro tip: System pages like chrome:// and extension pages are automatically excluded from bulk capture.
🏷️Categories
Organize your captures with categories. The extension remembers your category preference for each domain.
📶Offline Queue
Capture ideas even without an internet connection. The extension queues your captures and automatically syncs them when you're back online.
A "Queue" tab appears in the popup when you have pending captures waiting to sync.
🌙Dark Mode
The extension automatically matches your system theme preference, supporting both light and dark modes.
Capture History
View your recent captures directly in the extension. The History tab shows your last 10 captured ideas with:
- ✓Page title and source domain
- ✓Category label
- ✓Relative timestamp (e.g., "5m ago")
- ✓Direct link to the created issue
Usage Tracking
The extension footer shows your monthly usage and connected destination at a glance:
Best Practices
🔖Use Categories Consistently
The extension remembers your category choice per domain. If you always capture research from a particular site, it will default to "Research" next time.
✍️Add Context with Notes
The notes field is optional but valuable. Add a quick sentence about why you're capturing this — your future self will thank you.
🔒Pin the Extension
Pin IdeaLift to your browser toolbar for one-click access. Click the puzzle piece icon in Chrome, then click the pin icon next to IdeaLift.
Troubleshooting
Extension shows "Sign in to IdeaLift"
Click the button to sign in. If you were previously signed in, your session may have expired. Simply sign in again to reconnect.
Keyboard shortcut not working
The shortcut may conflict with another extension or system shortcut. Go to chrome://extensions/shortcuts to view and customize keyboard shortcuts.
Screenshot not capturing
Some pages restrict screenshot capture for security reasons. The extension will still capture the URL and any selected text.
Captures stuck in queue
Check your internet connection. The extension automatically syncs queued captures when you're back online. If the issue persists, try signing out and back in.
Can't capture from certain pages
Chrome restricts extensions on certain pages like chrome:// URLs, the Chrome Web Store, and some internal pages. Try on a regular webpage.
Permissions
The extension requests minimal permissions:
- ✓Active Tab - Read the current tab's URL and title when you capture
- ✓Storage - Save your preferences and capture history locally
- ✓Context Menus - Add right-click capture option
- ✓Alarms - Sync offline queue in the background
Privacy: The extension only accesses page data when you explicitly capture. We don't track your browsing or access pages in the background.
